KFP - Research History

Invention of KFP

Mr. Vijay Kedia has love for nature & always wanted to develop barren & non–productive farmlands. With this vision in mind, in year 1990 he started horticulture in 8 hectare farm near Aurangabad. For water he dug first bore-well in Jan 1991 which dried within 3 months. He dug another bore, then another… and another. Within 6 years 12 bore-wells were dug for underground water in 8 hectare field, all failing one after another. Most of the fruit trees died due to water shortage. Because no one knew how much water is left in the pot, pumping emptied the coffers of mother Earth. Then bore-well recharging experiments started in year 1995 without much success.

Mr. Kedia did not resign to fate & accept defeat. He still wanted to remain in agriculture. People advised him to go for a land having assured source of water supply i.e. ‘Visible water’ (water stored above ground). In 1996 he bought another land with existing Bandharas (check dams) of 25000 cu mtr water holding capacity in Jambhali village of Paithan Taluka near a small hill. But in summer of 1998 he faced a severe water crisis because water in the check dams and wells dried. Water became a matter of life & death for him, as he did not want to go back to his old construction business.

When all existing rain water harvesting methods could not solve his thirst for water, he started experimenting on his own. With his knowledge and research he came up with a revolutionary invention - Kedia Farm Pattern (KFP) rainwater harvesting system.

In March 2000, he invented a simple technique of rain water harvesting for underground percolation of rainwater, through a structure now known as KFP. KFP miraculously solved all the problems related to water and has brought an outright solution for farmers for their agricultural needs. KFP results are not just beneficial to mankind but the complete living-kind as whole.

Earlier (prior to KFP) even in the month of March, wells (35 ft deep) were dry in his farm but now wells in his farm are full of water even in the end of May. Just in 4 monsoons, water table in the farm increased by 18 ft in his farm, since year 2000.

Even the neighboring villages which were previously water-tanker fed, are now selling water to tankers.
